Hello! Welcome to the Computational Linguistics Lab at University of Florida, led by Dr. Zoey Liu.

We are professional nerds (or trying to be) about studying variation/generalization in languages, machines, and data. Broadly, we are interested in questions related to language typology, language learning as well as multilingual natural language processing. For example, we like to think out loud about things such as:

(1) To what extent do languages with different grammatical characteristics demonstrate structural variation, and why would that be?

(2) How would variation between language learners' L1 and L2 affect their production during second language learning?

(3) How well do multilingual natural language processing methods generalize across languages and datasets of different tasks, and how should we evaluate variation in their performance?

We address relevant questions using a data-driven approach, methods of number counting at varying degrees of carbon dioxide consumption, along with a non-western mind.
